Annual carbon footprint of bottled water in the USA

Production of the 29 billion polyethylene terephthalate (PET) water bottles used in the United States (about one bottle per person every four days) requires nearly 900,000 tons of the plastic, the equivalent of more than 17 million barrels of crude oil annually.

The Pacific Institute estimates that "the energy used for pumping and processing, transportation, and refrigeration, brings the annual fossil fuel footprint of bottled water consumption in the United States to more than 50 million barrels of oil, equivalent-enough to run 3 million cars for one year."

This summer, in British Columbia, proved to be a scorcher with numerous wildfires and record setting temperatures.

This warm weather trend is said to continue through the winter and will amplified by the coming of the forecasted el nino of 2010.

Will this supply of warm tropical wind serve to complicate outdoor snow event during the Vancouver Olympic games?

Many of us have given consideration to the "scents" we find in our collection of aromatherapy candles, ensuring that they are derived from essential oil and not from petroleum synthetics.

But, what about the candle? Soy and Beeswax candles are slowly gaining popularity; but, many of the candles produced today are made of paraffin or a paraffin wax blend. Even the common miniature-sized tea lights used to heat aromatherapy diffusers, are commonly made from paraffin.
